The next day we woke up at 5am, well first 2am, then 3am, then 4am- THEN 5am, to the sound of seagulls going crazy outside our balcony... oh lordy - let the adventure begin. We looked at each other with bags under our eyes, caught a few more hours of shut eye - then were out on the town. Feeling a little tired and irritable, we left our apartment and wandered the streets. It's amazing what an ocean breeze, sunshine, and a cup of coffee will do to the mood. We took a deep breath, and smiled as we enjoyed Varna for all the reasons we had returned to it. Logged a few hours of reading and writing at My Cafe (we are now regulars there), and enjoyed a delicious meal at our favorite place that was a little nuns convent, turned into a restaurant. Nothing like a delicious salad and some bacon wrapped chicken skewers - yum. We spent the night getting our yoga on, then sipping on wine and beer, and learning to get along with the seagulls (and ear plugs) b/c they are going to be around all month, and all night long. Guess that's what you get when you live close to the beach and not the city. We went from cable car noises to seagull noises - I guess we can deal:). The next day was spent eating sushi and salads, laying out on the beach and reading while picking up some fresh fruit, candles and flowers for a lovely dinner in. Well - it was a lovely night... but we spent it camping.
We were so excited to settle in for a movie (been dying to finally watch Zero Dark Thirty - which was awesome) and make a healthy dinner (well... healthy with wine of course) and just enjoy the hot air on our balcony for a bit. We also got this fabulous idea to make spiced nuts in our toaster for a healthy snack... and the first batch was awesome. The second batch however, didn't only cook the nuts it cooked the cord of the toaster and as soon as I went over to pull the nuts out the thing pretty much blew up in my face. Like fire, sparks, and a big loud noise. Before we knew what was happening I had dropped to the floor covering my face, and Colin was running over grabbing me to make sure my face was okay. I quickly let him know I was fine, and we hugged for a good 10 minutes while our hearts pounded and we let the adrenaline calm. I got a cold rag to put on my face in the case that there were any burns we couldn't see b/c it was now pitch black as this had shut off all the power - and we sat on the bed thinking - WHAT THE HELL ARE WE DOING IN BULGARIA!!! About 30 minutes later we settled down a bit, were able to laugh at eachother, tell each other how much we loved each other and how we never want anything to happen to the other, and then lit some candles to see each others faces. No burns on my face, col was alive and well - so we decided to forgo the idea of a hotel for the night and make it a night of candles, more wine, and a movie. Nothing like a moment like that to make you hug your special someone longer and tighter than you did the day before. Sometimes I think these things happen to make you realize all you have, and to make you live each day like its your last. So we fell asleep that night, close together - and woke up to our seagulls happy and healthy. We walked around the town, did our standard work out-read-write-laugh routine and decided we knew why we were in Bulgaria - it was to read, write, relax, and just be with each other and no one else.
Today we took on a bit longer of a walk than normal, and tried to get to the end of the Sea Garden (this giant park that is right above the beach) and I think we almost made it, but a few hours in decided to make our way back to grab a coffee and strategize life plans and dreams (a fun hobby of ours). The Sea Garden became more and more stunning as we got deeper and deeper into it - so many green trees, stunning cliff overlooking the beach, some new fun restaurants, and even some workout stations along the way (none that we got to of course). We had a quick lunch on the beach, and now we are at a cafe blogging and reading sipping on mojitos. So grateful for all the little things.
And a shout out to our little sisters who are rocking it at their new jobs this month... those 2 always impress us and we are so proud of them. Now - back to our drinks and reading up about our new passions and dreams... love love love it here, but we can't wait to get back either.:)
